Maine Clean Power

Maine Interfaith Power & Light is partnering with Maine Renewable Energy to bring zero emission, 100% renewable electricity to Maine residents and businesses.

Maine Interfaith Power & Light is a non-profit organization that brings Maine residents and organizations together to buy clean electricity. As a licensed electricity retailer, MEIPL offers clean power products which may be purchased as part of one’s electricity bill (Maine Clean Power) or as a stand alone renewable energy certificate (Maine Wind Watts).

From the web site:

As of today, prices for Maine Clean Power products are as follows:

Maine Clean Power Hydro: $0.110 per kWh
Maine Clean Power Wind: $0.120 per kWh
Maine Clean Power Hydro-Wind: $0.115 per kWh

Prices vary from day to day with the electric market, but are locked in for three years once a contract has been executed, with an option for automatic renewal (at current market price) for 3-year terms thereafter.

While these rates are a higher than the current “standard offer” of about $0.10 per kWh, rising natural gas prices mean that the rate gap will almost certainly narrow, and possibly provide a price advantage over the term of the three year contract.
