August 11 committee meeting

Our August meeting will be held tomorrow, Tuesday at 7pm at the York Library. We will have a special guest – Dimitri Cherny, from a Newmarket-based company called Highest Wind. They are looking to beta-test a project in York or Ogunquit. Instead of using windmills to create electricity, his company produces an “energy glider” which functions somewhat like a kite tethered to the ground and takes advantage of higher-altitude winds. You can learn more about it at www.highestwind.com.

We will also have further discussion about the changing our name to “York Goes Green” – as a way of differentiating ourselves from the town energy committee. (The selectmen chose to name that group the York Energy Efficiency Steering Committee.)

Finally, I’d like people’s input on speakers, programs or events we’d like to be involved in over the fall/winter. One idea may be to host a road-race.
