The York Energy Efficiency Committee is an independent, ad-hoc group of local citizens. We welcome new members, and invite all interested individuals to attend our meetings, which are generally held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at the York Public Library.
Our mission is to respond to the global warming crisis by promoting energy efficiency, alternative energy, and environmental initiatives throughout the town of York, Maine. The organization will strive to employ consensus-building techniques to work toward this mission. Our members recognize the following core beliefs as instrumental in achieving this mission:
•Global warming is a non-partisan issue, and as such we will strive to build consensus in our efforts
•Addressing global warming will take time and “every little bit helps”
•The solution to global warming will depend largely on the youth of the world, and as such educating and working with our youth is critical
•People want to get involved with this issue, and we want to engage the community as much as possible and make this an enjoyable, social organization
In order to achieve our mission, the York Energy Efficiency Committee will work toward the following objectives:
•Work with the Board of Selectmen to develop policy recommendations and pilot projects for town buildings
•Educate the citizens of York on actions that help reduce global warming
•Be a social networking organization
