Dear Eric,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome at the meeting yesterday.
I am energized at the thought of working with your group as an Intern and Volunteer.

Carolyn Spector Gillis

Please visit our Facebook page while we set up a more formal location.
RESTORE ANIMAL FOREST PARK AND SAVE IT FROM BEING BULLDOZED.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55715288465&ref=ts
Save our 100 acre old Park from being bulldozed.
Lovingly restore it to 1940-70's charm as an UN-zoo and ECO Amusement Park.
Investigate making the park a COOPERATIVE so you or groups may rent or buy a portion of it such as having your school rent the organic cotton candy stand to make money and build character for students..or an animal group to work with sheep in the UN- Zoo..brainstorming encouraged.

I think that idea of Debra will work out. But I hope we have some more alternatives when it comes to reusing or recycling plastic # 5. I am sure a lot of people are now aware about this.

It seems many schools also host this program. I think Beach Pea Bakery in Kittery, which is very committed to reducing/reusing, also maintains a drop-off bin. The other alternative is to reduce your consumption of #5 plastic by making your own yogurt -- an easy process and the makers are inexpensive.

It appears that #5 containers can be dropped off at select locations through Stonyfield's "Gimme 5" program. Unfortunately, the only Maine location is the Whole Foods Market in Portland. Mailing information is also available at their web site: http://www.preserveproducts.com/recycling/gimme5.html.

I think that upgrading your windows is a major project that requires careful consideration. When my wife and I decided to replace the seven windows and three sliding patio doors in our home, we found out just how confusing it can be. Our house is a typical 1960's era ranch style home located in Southern California. The exterior is stucco and the original windows were aluminum. We spent several months trying to find the best <a href="http://decorating.visitacasas.com/vinyl-replacement-windows-cutting-edge-window-technology/" rel="nofollow">vinyl windows</a> for our home.
I want to think about the people on the other end of cheap oil. Try to imagine real people trying to feed their families on disgraceful wages and deplorable conditions so we can buy cheap stuff. I'm hoping this will stop me from buying stuff I don't need and inspire me to buy local and Fair Trade when I do.

I want to have the chutzpah to bug Hannafords to reduce one use plastic bags and help them step up their promotion of re-usables. And go to Rite Aid after that with the same message.

I'm going to ask Wayne about this power strip stuff because I'm afraid that if I stop feeding my computer it will stop!

I may try and trade credits (like cap and trade) so I can continue to use my clothes dryer with less guilt!!

We are also planning to continue some small things like using a power strip to turn off our TV and cable box every night and on work days. We are trying to limit driving miles by combining trips and by buying locally or online whenever possible.

Last year, we had a home energy audit done by George of Gendron Construction Services, and it helped us find some heat loss areas, but I still have some insulating to do around the foundation and basement.

And we'll expand the vegetable garden, try some different crops, and hopefully preserve more food for the winter months.
